Alittle more.

Worked on this  bit more. Wish I had had time to finish the paint for the competition, would have made the whole thing look a million times better.

Back to work on this and my other jobs/studies.

More work.

This is closer to the line drawing I wish I had finished around noon.

My critique on it? I could have pushed the whole concept a bit more, but I got hung up on trying to make a "sci-fi" piece that the hunter aspect of it is a bit lacking in my eyes, this could just as well be a soldier, or sniper, or anything really. Nothing screams "HUNTER!" to me.  It's always hard to juggle learning the broad basics of something and also trying to not get so overwhelmed to the point you miss the subtle things.  Something to work on in the future, and a good reason to draw a lot from imagination and study a lot so your prepared for future jobs.

Still planning on painting it and fleshing out the dogs a bit more.

Trevor Claxton Scifi Concept Challenge for Crimson Daggers

Over at the Crimson Daggers study group/stream, they ran a Sci-Fi character concept challenge, 6 - 7 days to concept out a  Sci-fi hunter and pet(s).

Boy did I battle with this one.  I used to draw sci-fi/ mech stuff  a looooong time ago when I was in college but sort of just stopped and moved more toward fantasy. Probably because scifi is hard to draw and I didn't want to struggle to make shit work.

But in keeping with the Deathline challenge that the Crimson Daggers are doing I decided to give it a go.  Taking into account all the studies I've been doing and anatomy stuff I felt a lot more confident.  After struggling to just draw some sci-fi concpts for 3 or so days I only had about 3 days left to get down on paper what I did. I'm going to keep working on it, some parts need to be pushed more. I only had time to throw a shit black and white wash behind the line to make some stuff pop, full b/w under painting with color to come shortly.

Here is some of the ref and prelim sketches I did for the challenge and at the bottom the finished concept drawing I did.

12.10.11

Been feeling sluggish this month. My back is in a ton of pain from my shit ass chair and I'm trying to recover. Never noticed how much physical stuff can break concentration as I've been lucky so far and haven't injured myself in the line of art.

So....trying to learn scifi.

I've come to the conclusion that I've avoided drawing tons of shit I like to look at in other peoples work because I'm too afraid to try and do it myself! Sci-fi being one of them.  I really need to dig into anatomy and start drawing in my sketchbook more, more imagination work, atleast 2 hours a night.

2 hours anatomy in the morning followed by 1 - 2 hours painting anatomy right after I get up?  Then 2 hours drawing in a sketch book at night before bed? NO problem! Still leaves 9 - 10 hours a day for work sandwiched in the middle.

Sketchbook from tonight.

12.2.11 Mo'shit

Quick one hour'ish still life and some anatomy studies from the past 3 or so days.

12.2.11

Finished this one up just now. Took me about 30 hours, started it monday'ish. Wish I was able to do it faster, but this was one of the fastest date I've done to this level.  All those studies are helping. ;D

I have the process shots over on WIP nation, great site. *Process Shots*
