Some more morning sketches from scattered days over the past week or two. These are based on one of the several daily topics from the spitpaint facebook group.  Enjoy!

New painting!

Some new client work, a card illo!

The final painting! Had lots of fun on this one, I mean come on, painting dragons for money!

The first the initial sketches before the image dimensions changed.

The final sketch, the bottom half of the card had to be added to appear behind the text of the card.

The final drawing, the last stage before I went to paint.

Study Dump!

Some of the digital studies from the past week or so!  I've been mainly focusing on female faces and anatomy, newest ones at the top and older as you go down.

Magic Shield Painting.

Some new client work!  The concept was a mage that uses magic shields and spells to prevent damage. Below are some of the stages for the painting, the original 4 sketches I presented to the client along with the final version of the sketch I gave them for the final "ok." before moving on to the finished painting and some initial costume designs.

The first batch of sketches sent to the client.

The final drawing and color sketch before moving to paint.

First batch of costumes.
Second batch done after the client decided to have a more simple costume design.

It's a big one!

I finished up this client work last week!   I took quite awhile to draw/paint and there was a good deal of planning that went on during the beginning stages.  The image will eventually be used as the front cover to a board game, as right now it's one of a few art assets for a soon to be Kickstarter.

This was probably the most involved paintings I've done to date. The bottom image is one of a couple of planning stages I went through for the project.    The client and I picked  out 5 of the many hero classes that were going to be used on the cover and I went ahead and sketched out some quick character sheets for them.  The character will appear in a bunch more images should the project go forward so I needed something to refer back to later on.

In the next week or two I'll post up more of the process to the painting, when I can find the time to save out images for it all!

Work work work study work work

Been super busy with client work as of late! ( A good thing for sure!) But it doesn't leave me with a ton of stuff to post up here.  One large job in particular I can show stuff for has had no shortage of things to work on, I should be posting some images from that up soon as I get things a little closer to being finished and more presentable.   In the mean time since I have't updated in awhile so here's some more quick'ish warm up sketches using phrases from the daily spitpaint facebook page, they always have great ideas up there.

Busy busy!

I haven't had much free time as of late, been busy with client work! I have a ton of different things going including some personal paintings.   All of  which I'll share in a post soon once I compile a bunch of the stuff together and finish everything up!

Here's a quick sketch thing I did the other day of an acid ooze thing eating some dwarven miners. Nom nom.

More Speeds

More speeds, Golden Maden, Battle Angel and Mud Monster up this time.

This one ended up being more of a character study and less of a composed illo.  Had a lot of fun with this monster type,I need to bust out more of these!

More More Spitpaints

A few more of these this past week!  Still taking longer than 30 minutes but getting to full color a shit ton faster.   Topics include: Sky Demon(s), Jellyfish Monster, Catapult Assault and Out of Mana.  I'm making a ass load more sketches for cool paintings with these than I could ever have time to paint!

More Spitpaints

A few more Spitpaints from today and last week!  Been too busy with paintings to really get back into these, but I'd love to take a few of these further, if only I could do without eating, sleeping and exorcise.

More spitpaints.   Still too slow with these, but getting faster (When I can fit them in)  Getting harder to fit these in between studies, work and personal work!

BFP Fanart

Some quick altering of a cover for game played by BFP in a new youtube vid.  I didn't paint the whole cover, just Matt, Woolie and Liams faces and a little touch up stuff, just for fun. These guys are funny as hell! I've been watching them for quite awhile now.  If you need something to watch while you work check em out! Best Friends Play

Spitpaint Week 5

These are from a week or so back.  Little light on comps, a ton of stuff came up and I couldn't find time most mornings to fit this and studies in.   I love doing these though, need to get back on the stick.

Link Ambushed!

I wanted to use the Roman inspired Link design I did a while back, so between commissions and work I've been painting this. I didn't put a ton of thought into a back story or anything I just wanted to practice a multi-figure composition. I decided to draw Link ambushed by some of Gannon’s soldiers, he obviously won!

This painting I started totally different than any I had done before.  I did a mix of black and white painting and line art together, blocking in shape and tone along with a super basic skeleton of the drawing, something I had been doing with the speed paints before I started this.  I'll have to try it out more, but It seemed to get the comp and beginning stages rolling a lot faster than a line drawing alone.

The First color pass, after it's all done I almost like the colors of this one this one more.   Part of me wishes I had stuck to this pallet and done a more monochrome painting with just the focals having high saturation/contrast.  One of the pitfalls of not working from a fully fleshed out sketch/color comp and just adding stuff as you go along.  When you're your own AD it's easy to change shit around on the fly, for better or worse!

More Speeds

This was last weeks compilation of speed paints. The words for the image, in order from left to right were Bone Shield, Black Skull, Badger Army, Feather Dress and Dementia.  These are a ton of fun to do, just wish I could do them faster and tighter. Have to keep pushing!

More speed paints.

More speed paints! I'm still doing anatomy studies, but on paper so no images of that this week. I should have some new personal working finishing up soon. Keep a eye peeled!  Most f these took more than 30 min still, close to an hour for most.

I'm getting faster the more I do these but right now I'm more concerned with using these as computational practice and idea generation for potential personal work, rather than producing some generic piece of shit with texture brushes just to fit the requirements.  I'll get there eventually anyway if i just keep pushing!
Idea one and two for "Bridge in The Fog"

"Tree of Infinity"  One half finished idea, and a more resolved comp.

Idea one and two for "King Toad"  I have more ideas for this one, love the subject matter.

"Axe Man"  I could have gone anywhere with this one, I may explore the topic more.

"Rising from the Grave"

"Rising from the Grave" #2  Ra's Al Ghul!  Gunna getcha!  I watched the shit out of the Batman cartoon as a kid.
